When was the last time you updated your resume? Several months? Years? During your most recent job search? If you haven’t updated your resume in a while, now is the time to do so.

An updated resume that provides the hiring manager with the full scope of your experience and abilities is the best way to land that desired interview. You should update your resume whenever you get a new job or gain new skills or experience. This may appear to be a tedious task, but it is less time-consuming than sitting down after ten years and adding a large amount of new information.

Here are 3 Ways to Update Your Resume to Land More Job Interviews and get hired, according to Jenna Arcand.

Optimize your resume with keywords

Your resume must pass the ATS to reach the hiring manager. The best way to accomplish this is to optimize your resume with keywords. You can’t properly optimize your resume unless you tailor it to each position you apply for. Before you create your resume, review the job description.

After reading the job description, highlight the specific skills and technologies mentioned by the employer in the job posting and include them on your resume. If the ATS reads your resume and finds enough of the keywords the employer is looking for, you’ll “pass” as qualified for the position.

Update your formatting

When was the last time you updated your resume format? Have you been adding more text to it? Stretching the margins to fit everything on one page? Nothing makes it more difficult for hiring managers to get the information they need from your resume than outdated, inconsistent formatting.

Use a simple resume format and a clean-line font like Arial or Calibri. Avoid large blocks of text by using bullet points and one-inch margins.

Add Numbers to Your Bullet Points

The numbers on your resume demonstrate to hiring managers what you’ve accomplished at work. They provide hiring managers with a tangible metric against which to assess your success and potential. Number each bullet point in your resume’s “Work History” section. If you can’t quantify something that demonstrates you’re a valuable employee, it shouldn’t be included.

That’s it! Your phone will ring once more as soon as you update your resume!
